Surinti Alpacas

Surinti Alpacas are located in the Latrobe Valley in central Gippsland’s rolling hills in Victoria.

The name Surinti comes from combining Suri (the type of alpaca we breed) and “Inti”, the Inca sun God. It is believed that Inti created alpacas to reward the Incas. His gift was a beautiful intelligent animal whose fibre is soft and lustrous. Even today, alpaca fleece is known as "fibre of the gods". Surinti Alpacas have been members of the AAA (Australian Alpaca Association) since 1999.

All of the alpacas we breed are halter trained and easier handling and showing. Our aim is to breed robust Australian Suri alpacas with fine fleeces of a high comfort factor. Our hand-spun fleeces have produced some lovely soft garments. Alpaca socks feel great!

John purchased two suri alpacas in 1999, both have produced many Show winners. The late Angels Peak George's Gidget produced five male offspring all Show winners demonstrating the great attributes of the Suri breed. Three of her boys, Storm, Coco and Louis are certified and working. Louie's presence in the show ring is outstanding. He was shorn in late 2006 and has resumed his show career. Storm's first progeny have solid colours, exquisite lustre and will be sought after by local hand spinners.

Our unique, low-energy consumption house features a curved roof, large verandas and a large deck, with stables and workshops underneath. The alpacas have sheltered inside often and when the windows were being put in we had snow fall. The cria were very quick to go inside, followed by the adult females. There is a picture in the gallery of snow day September 2005. The house has been located so that we will be able to view all the property (and animals) from the shed and deck area. The birthing paddocks will be around the shed with access to the stables.

The house is almost finished inside and we EAGERLY await summer when the concreting around the house will be done and the stables and decking will be completed.

Windsong Valley Andean Pride came to Surinti Alpacas in February 2006 and is a welcome addition to our herd. Ande has an impressive record and has expanded our herd's genetics. We also have several young stud males with genetics from Tahara Illumini and Jingana Ra. Bookings for matings for Ande, Storm, Coco,  Luminous Prince, Calico and Tangles are available, with mobile bookings an option if you live within a 40 kilometre radius. Surinti Copper Sheen, our solid light fawn boy will be certified late 2009.
